Love and Human Remains

This show was my first venture into the theatre scene at Sydney University, and is an experience I will always hold close to my heart. Written by acclaimed Canadian playwright Brad Fraser, this disturbing, thrilling and touching play follows the lives of 3 small-town young adults attempting to navigate all of young life’s trials and tribulations, all while there is a serial killer on the loose killing young women and leaving some of their human remains to be found. This play is a startling examination of how far people are willing to go to fill the void that deep unrequited love leaves in one’s self.

I had the privilege of directing this show, thereby getting to meet and work with many talented Australian student actors. Since the script is written in such a way that all characters can interject with dialogue at any given moment – no matter whether or not they are in the scene being played – I had to create a staging design that would allow all actors to be onstage all the time without being distracting. I believe it worked out well. I am grateful for the Sydney University Dramatic Society for producing this play, and giving an exchange student the opportunity to be involved.
