BENT

BENT is a full-length play by Martin Sherman that was written in 1979, and can now be considered a staple in the English theatre canon. It follows the experience of Max, a promiscuous and misguided gay man, in 1930s Germany with the rise of the Nazi party as he fights for survival, and depicts the gruesome hardships that gay men needed to endure to stay alive in the most trying of times.

I played Rudy – Max’s sensitive and soft-spoken boyfriend – in this production that local theatre practitioner Scott Forster directed under his company Flesh & Blood Productions. This was an important production for me to be involved in as a Jew since it opened my eyes to the horrors that other minority groups also experienced at the hands of the Nazis.
